Multi-eventer Van der Plaetsen is travelling this week to the Estonian town of Tallinn to compete against double world champion decathlon Trey Hardee. 23-year-old Van der Plaetsen will be looking to improve on his Belgian record (6020 points) and aims to qualify for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland.

Van der Plaetsen concluded a very productive winter training stint in South-Africa and smashed his PB in multiple events leading up to the Combined Events EA Indoor Permit scheduled for February 7-8. In the 60m hurdles he improved to 8.06 and in the French town of Mondeville he cleared 5m34 in the pole vault. Earlier this season he jumped to 7m74 in the long jump.

Also competing are Russians Artyom Lukyanenko and Ilya Shkurenyov and Carlos Chinin of Brazil.
