With just 2 days to go before the start of the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics, which takes place in the Russian capital from 10 to 18 August, Belgian combined events specialists Thomas Van der Plaetsen and Nafissatou Thiam are hoping to build on their stunning performances they set earlier this season.

Aged only 22, Van der Plaetsen has shown great fitness for his 2nd IAAF World Championships experience. After putting together a personal best tally of 8164 and claiming the gold medal at last month’s World University Games, Thomas will look to carry that momentum and set another personal best.

Van der Plaetsen will start his two-day competition on Saturday August 10th at 9:35am (local time) with the final event scheduled at 8:35pm on Sunday evening (11).

On the women’s side, junior heptathlete Nafissatou Thiam will be making her first appearance at a senior World Championships. The 18-year-old is in the midst of a brilliant season. Following her World indoor junior best performance in the pentathlon and her 6th place at the European Athletics Indoor Championships she went on to win the gold medal at last month’s European Athletics Junior Championships, breaking the national junior and senior record in the process (6298). Thiam will be in action from Monday through Tuesday (12-13).

The 14th edition of the IAAF World Outdoor Championships competition runs from August 10-18. For more information including a complete event schedule, visit www.iaaf.org
