In the Royal Theatre of Namur multi-event standout Nafi Thiam was named Female Sports Personality of the Year of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation for her outstanding performances in 2013.

In the balloting 19-year-old Thiam finished  ahead of judoka  Anne-Sophie Jura, karateka Laura Pradelli, basketball player Kathy Wambe and hurdler Anne Zagré. The geography student is the successor of Olympic medalist in judo Charline Van Snick. On top of this distinction, she was also voted ‘Coup de Coeur’ in an online public voting.
Thiam enjoyed a successful year highlighted by her gold medal at the European Athletics Junior Championships in the Italian town of Rieti where she also set a new national senior record. She earned the award for her performance at the IAAF World Championships where she placed 14th in the heptathlon, winning the high jump with a 1m92 PB jump.

The male award went to one of Europe’s most exciting young rally talents Thierry Neuville.
