At the famous Hypo Meeting in Gotzis, an IAAF Combined Events Challenge meeting, Nafi Thiam took 4th place with a total score of 6491.
Nafi got off to a flying start by clocking a splendid personal best in the 100m hurdles in 13.63 (previous PB: 13.79). The two-time European medallist than finished second to Britton Johnson-Thompson in the high jump with 1m89 to move up to 4th place in the overall ranking.
Belgium’s 2014 European bronze medallist then reached 15.04m in the shot put to become the third overall leader in as many events with 2988 points. She concluded the first day of comeptition with a 25.06 clocking in the 200m.
On Sunday, Nafi produced a consistent series of jumps in the long jump with a best jump of 6m26. The javelin throw was held in rainy conditions where she managed a 48.61m throw to place second. She then ran to an excellent PB of 2.17.28 in the 800m resulting in an encouraging 4th place overall and a 6491 tally.
It was Thiam’s second-best score ever and was just 17 points shy of her national record set in 2014 in Gotzis.
